The Committee recommends the General Insurance Code of Practice be amended to require that insurers use the ‘single point of contact’ claims management approach to the extent possible when responding to major natural disasters and ensure policyholders are informed of who their assigned case manager is as soon as practicable. The Committee further recommends that insurers be required to accommodate the preferred communication channel nominated by a policyholder during the claim processing period.
